Launching in 2005, iSAMS became the first Management Information System for schools that’s entirely web-based. Designed for teachers by teachers, iSAMS supports staff members, enhances parental engagement and empowers student learning. Using this software, any member of the school community can access key information through a single intuitive interface. iSAMS’ modular approach enables the system to be scaled in accordance with future growth and customised to ensure it meets a school’s individual needs. The company is currently working with over 950 schools in more than 75 countries around the world.

iSAMS had an immediate priority to redesign their Mark Books module. In doing so, they needed a web-based data grid that could replicate Excel in both look and feel, as well as in its support for formulas. Before they came across Handsontable, they couldn’t find anything that met their exact needs without requiring further add-ons or third party software to work.
There wasn't a product available that could mimic Excel as well as Handsontable.
The iSAMS team was happy to discover that Handsontable was a standalone product, so there was nothing else to install in order to make it fully functional. This also meant that there were no additional licenses to purchase, making it an affordable solution for them. This was particularly important as their clients are schools, who have limited budgeting and resources. They also found the JavaScript data grid easy to build on and maintain as it fit right into their existing architecture.
Mark Books is made by formulas so we needed to support this throughout – and Handsontable does this seamlessly.

Thanks to the implementation of Handsontable, iSAMS customers using their Mark Books module can enjoy the simple installation of a single product that is easy to rollout and start using with minimal training. The company’s future plans include integrating Handsontable across additional products, including their data management modules (such as HR Manager), to help schools more effectively process key information.
